Nexletol (bempedoic acid)
Nexletol, also known as bempedoic acid, is a prescription medication used to lower LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and reduce the risk of heart attack and certain heart procedures like stent placement or bypass surgery. It's specifically designed for adults with primary hyperlipidemia, including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH), who can't take recommended statin therapy.
How it Works
Nexletol blocks the action of an enzyme called adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase (ACL), which helps your liver make cholesterol. By inhibiting this enzyme, Nexletol decreases the amount of LDL cholesterol produced by the liver.
Dosage and Administration
The recommended dosage is 180mg orally once daily, with or without food. Your healthcare provider may monitor your lipid levels within 8-12 weeks after starting treatment.
