It is thought that one in three people will
contract cancer at some point in their life, as it is one
of the worst and most common disease that leaves people severely
ill and in a lot of cases, leads to death.
Cancer is a disease which is a group of cells that grow,
divide, invade and destroy adjacent tissues. The disease may
also spread further, throughout the body and is a process
known as, metastasis.
There are many types of cancer, some more common than others,
and some that are much worse than others. But if not treated
all, can lead to death. Cancer can affect many parts of the
body; some are just more popular than others. Lung cancer
is very popular as it is mainly caused through the inhalation
of smoke from cigarettes.
Skin cancer is very common in the UK, especially because
many people go on holiday to get a tan, but tanning your skin
is very dangerous and any exposure to the sun damages your
skin. Sun exposure at childhood increases your chances of
contracting cancer in later age. The naivety of the British
people not realising that the sun the climate in the UK maybe
not be warm, and the sun may not seem strong, but during the
summer, the suns rays are very strong and therefore sun exposure
to the skin will cause damage.
There are specific gender cancers which only affect either
men or women. Men can contract testicular cancer in their
testicles. It is a growth, appearing as a lump in your testicles.
So it is important if you think you feel a lump to go see
you local GP. Women can develop breast cancer, and this also
appears as a lump, usually under the breast. You should do
the same, if you feel a lump under your breast contact your
local healthcare.
Arimidex - Anastrozole.
Arimidex is a first-line treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal
women. It slows the growth of advanced cancer within the
breast and cancer that has spread to other parts of the
body. Arimidex is also used to treat advanced breast cancer
in postmenopausal women whose disease has spread to other
parts of the body following treatment with tamoxifen (Nolvadex),
another anticancer drug. Arimidex can also be prescribed
along with other drugs to treat the early stages of breast
cancer in postmenopausal women. Arimidex combats the kind
of breast cancer that thrives on estrogen. One of the hormones
produced by the adrenal gland is converted to a form of
estrogen by an enzyme called aromatase. Arimidex suppresses
this enzyme and thereby reduces the level of estrogen circulating
in the body.
Cancer is an extremely dangerous and progressive disease that affects
many people, not just people who have cancer but also family
members and friends who have to deal with helping or even
the loss of somebody. The disease can be treated but it is
a lengthy and stressful process. Getting diagnosed early increases
your chances of surviving the disease.
