Arthritis is swelling and inflammation of the joints. It is
the most common problem in the UK and it mainly concerns the
elderly. One in five visits to the doctors is due to people
suffering from arthritis and there isn’t jus one type of the
problem either, there a over two hundred. But there are two
main ones.
Rheumatoid arthritis is inflammatory to the joints. The
joints become a lot more painful because of the immune system
attacking the joint lining. This then destroys the lining
making it deformed. One in 100 people are affected by this
type of arthritis and it tens to affect younger women.

The other main type of arthritis is Osteoarthritis. This
is where the cartilage of the bone gets worn away, making
the joint stiff. Mainly seen to occur in older people, younger
people can also develop the problem through sport injuries.
Osteoarthritis is more common but less severe than that
of Rheumatoid arthritis.
Arthritis can isolate people, especially the elderly as
they struggle to do jobs and tasks like they once were able
to do. Arthritis can leave people feeling depressed and
insecure. Being overweight increases the chances and pressure
on you developing arthritis. But you can keep your bones
and joints healthy by taking Vitamin C and D and also drinking
milk which contains plenty of calcium.
AnalgiPlus - Tylenol
2 - ( Paracetamol and Codeine ). Analgiplus is a narcotic
analgesic and due to its Codeine content it is very useful
in the symptomatic treatment of muscular pains, postoperative
and postnatal pains, rheumatic pains, lumbago, neuralgia,
sciatica, torticollis, menstrual cramps, cephalalgia, toothaches
and pains caused by a neoplastic process.
Codeine - (Codeine and Paracetamol).A
narcotic analgesic and due to its Codeine content it is very
useful in the symptomatic treatment of muscular pains, postoperative
and postnatal pains, rheumatic pains, lumbago, neuralgia,
sciatica, torticollis, menstrual cramps, cephalalgia, toothaches
and pains caused by a neoplastic process.
Tramadol - Extended
Release - Adolonta Retard
- Ultram. Tramadol is a centrally
acting analgesic with opioid-like effects. It relieves pain
by acting on the specific nerve endings of the spinal cord
and brain. These nerve endings diminish the severity of the
pain you feel, a natural function that is increased with the
administration of Tramadol. Tramadol is indicated for the
treatment of moderate to severe pain.
Advil - Ibuprofen
- Motrin. Advil is a nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drug available in both prescription and
nonprescription forms. Prescription Advil is used in adults
for relief of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis,
treatment of menstrual pain, and relief of mild to moderate
pain. In children aged 6 months and older it can be given
to reduce fever and relieve mild to moderate pain. It is also
used to relieve the symptoms of juvenile arthritis.
Mobic - Movalis
- Meloxicam. Mobic is a nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) in prescription form. It is
used to relieve the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis.
Celebrex - Celecoxib.
Celebrex is prescribed for acute pain, menstrual cramps, and
the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid
arthritis. It is the first of a new class of nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) called "COX-2 inhibitors."
Like older NSAIDs such as Motrin and Naprosyn, Celebrex is
believed to fight pain and inflammation by inhibiting the
effect of a natural enzyme called COX-2. Unlike the older
medications, however, Celebrex does not interfere with a similar
substance, called COX-1, which exerts a protective effect
on the lining of the stomach. Celebrex is therefore less likely
to cause the bleeding and ulcers that sometimes accompany
sustained use of the older NSAIDs. Celebrex has also been
found to reduce the number of colorectal polyps (growths in
the wall of the lower intestine and rectum) in people who
suffer from the condition called familial adenomatous polyposis
(FAP), an inherited tendency to develop large numbers of colorectal
polyps that eventually become cancerous.
Lyrica - Pregabalin.
Lyrica affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved
in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. The exact
way that it works is unknown. Lyrica is used with other drugs
in the treatment of some types of seizures. Lyrica is also
used for the management of postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain
caused by the herpes virus or shingles) and for diabetic peripheral
neuropathy (pain from damaged nerves that happen with diabetes).
Zaldiar - Tramadol - Paracetamol.
Zaldiar is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of moderate
to severe pain in adults and children over 12 years of age.
The active ingredients per tablet are 37,5 milligrams of tramadol
hydrochloride and 325 milligrams of paracetamol.
Dolmen - Aspirin - Codeine -
Vitamin C. Codeine phosphate, obtained from opium or prepared
from morphine by methylation, is a centrally acting analgesic
used for the relief of mild to moderately severe pain. Codeine
is used as an analgesic, a cough suppressant or as an anti-diarrheal
agent. The phosphate of the alkaloid codeine is used because
of its free solubility in water. Aspirin is a salicylate that
has demonstrated antiinflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic
and antirheumatic activity. Aspirin is used for the temporary
relief of headache, painful discomfort and fever of colds,
muscular aches and pains, temporary relief of minor pains
of arthritis, toothache, and pain following dental procedures,
menstrual pain. The combination of codeine and aspirin is
used to relieve mild to moderately severe pain. Codeine/aspirin
is sometimes prescribed for other uses, ask your doctor for
more information.
There is no cure for arthritis but there are ways to help
deal with it and keep it under control. Paracetamol and painkillers
are the two main forms used to help numb the pain and keep
it under control. Moving the muscles is good for the joints
as it stops them stiffing up. Therefore doctors recommend
that gentle physiotherapy is a good way to relieve pain and
gently strengthen the joint area.
